SCHOOL OF NURSING

1. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING EDUCATION, SATRIBARI CHRISTIAN HOSPITAL :

The staff of Satribari Christian Hospital, School of Nursing believe that the programme is designed to help students in their personal and professional growth and development, so as to enable them to, make their maximum contribution to the society as individual citizens and nurses and to develop pride in their profession.

We believe that this development can best be realized through the principles of Christian social living based on a personal relationship to God through Jesus Christ, and to help them to apply their faith in Christian witness and professional care in the healing ministry. We believe that the basic course in Nursing is based on sound scientific principles and educational principles to prepare students for a suitable profession which they can practice with dignity in minds the health needs preventive, primitive, curative and rehabilitative of the individual, families and communities.

2. A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL OF NURSING :

The School of Nursing, Satribari Christian Hospital is one of the oldest School in the North East Region. It was started on 26th October 1926 by Miss. Milli Marvin, a Missionary Nurse. With the (05) five Students the school was started. From this small beginning the Nurses Training School has grown, with the out-turn of graduates regularly annually.

Previously both GNM and ANM under Matric students were admitted.
Upto 1969, Upgrading training was also given to Junior Certificate Nurses.
From 1975 - 1983 Matriculates students were admitted.
From 1984 onwards P.U./H.S.S.L.C. students were admitted.
The present 31/2 years New Course started from 2005.
Admission is once a year in January.
The School has a Full Fledge Teaching Faculty.
The graduates from this school are working in various Hospitals in the Country and outside the country : Middle East, U.K., U.S.A. and others.
For those who are interested for further study, chances are given like M.Sc. (N), B.Sc.(N), D.N.E.A., P.H.N., Etc

3. THE SCHOOL OF NURSING IS RECOGNISED BY THE INDIAN NURSING COUNCIL AND ASSAM NURSES 'MIDWIVES' AND HEALTH VISITORS COUNCIL.

4. PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL :

a. To provide instruction and supervision in the Science of Nursing and subjects related to Nursing in the context of Christian service.
b. To help the student to give comprehensive Nursing care.
c. To help the student develop spiritually, mentally, socially as well as professionally to keep pace with latest professional and technological developments and use these for providing nursing care services.

5. DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE :

a. 3 Years 6 months
b. Medium of Instruction : English.
